Encounters with poisonous snakes and spiders are rare. Copperhead snakes live in this area. The northeastern rattler is an endangered species and thus is very rare here. Most snakes found around homes are harmless. Black widow and brown recluse spiders are rare but in the area. An indication of a spider bite is a red swollen spot. If you’re bitten by a snake or spider, call poison control at 1-800-222-1222, or The Northern Westchester Hospital Center at 666-1254.
